From the moment children walk through the stained-glass front door, they know they have arrived somewhere special. Bay windows, chandeliers, kauri panelling and more than 2000 square metres of garden: imagination is never far away at Epsom.

Bear Park Epsom is a Reggio-inspired early learning centre at 7 Patey Street, in the Double Grammar Zone area, caring for tamariki aged 3 months to 5 years from Epsom, Greenlane, Royal Oak and Newmarket.

The homestead gardens at Bear Park Epsom

A setting that sparks imagination

Stained-glass windows, high ceilings, kauri panelling and expansive gardens create a centre unlike any other. The outdoor spaces include big shading trees and hedging that invites children into worlds of make-believe, all within the character of a lovingly restored homestead.

Teachers and children at Bear Park Epsom

Every person known by name

Teachers at Epsom pride themselves on knowing every child, parent and whānau member who walks through the door. In this warm, intimate setting meaningful relationships develop naturally and every family feels truly valued.

Classroom materials at Bear Park Epsom

Learning that builds on itself

Natural and recycled materials across the classrooms provoke creative thinking and problem solving. Tuakana-teina relationships unfold as younger tamariki build confidence alongside older peers, and older children grow in empathy and leadership.

A warm welcome from the team who lead the centre.

A short welcome from the person who leads the Epsom team, who would love to meet you and your child in person.

Our teachers are inspired by Reggio Emilia, the RIE approach and Te Whāriki, with genuine relationships between children, parents and teachers at the centre of everything we do.

That trust is everything

"As an anxious first-time mum, I've appreciated the reassurance, updates, and care they've shown not just to our daughter, but to our whole family. We trust them completely with our precious girl, and that trust is everything."

Home away from home

"The team is amazing, the food is delicious and the environment is incredible. For us Bear Park feels like home away from home, and my son runs into the building every day with a huge smile."

Questions parents ask

Good to ask, before you visit.

Bear Park Epsom is at 7 Patey Street, Epsom, Auckland 1051. Cornwall Park is a 3 minute walk, and Cornwall Park District School is nearby. The centre sits within the Double Grammar Zone, covering both Auckland Grammar and Epsom Girls' Grammar School. Open Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 6.00pm. Nearby suburbs: Royal Oak, Greenlane, Three Kings, Remuera, Newmarket.

Our Patey Street centre sits in the heart of Epsom, the neighbourhood zoned for Auckland Grammar and Epsom Girls' Grammar. School zoning follows your home address rather than your childcare centre, but most of our families live locally with those school years already on the horizon. Cornwall Park and One Tree Hill (Maungakiekie) are a short walk away.

More teachers around each child at Bear Park Epsom means a better quality of learning. With attention to spare, kaiako can focus on meaningful observation, documentation, and responsive teaching. Our teacher-to-child ratios are well above what licensing requires, and we're proud of the calm, attentive environments this creates.

At Bear Park Epsom, at least 80% of our kaiako hold an ECE or Primary teaching qualification at Level 7 or above on the NZQA framework, and are fully registered with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. Our Centre Director is a qualified, registered ECE teacher with substantial sector experience. All teaching staff, including those working towards their qualification, are mentored by our Curriculum and Operations leadership team.

Bear Park Epsom welcomes tamariki from 3 months through to 5 years. We provide care and education across this entire range, so your child can grow with us and with their kaiako all the way to school.

For fees, please contact Bear Park Epsom directly. Our team can explain what's involved and advise on any government subsidies available to your whānau, including the 20 Hours ECE programme.

To find out if there is space at Bear Park Epsom, contact us directly. Our spaces are in demand, and getting in touch early gives your tamariki the best chance of securing a place.

The quickest way to book a tour is online. Go to bearpark.co.nz, click Book a Tour, and select Bear Park Epsom. Our Parents Guide is also available to download and covers everything you'd want to know about Bear Park.
